I'm in the middle of a migration to O365 and really want to be able to switch to using Skype Online. It will be nice to utilize the Skype for business mobile app and stuff, but we can't really switch until we have an answer for persistent chat. In addition to taking preview requests from commercial clients, Microsoft says it will begin seeding Skype for Business Mac Preview to IT administrators before opening the preview to more users. ![]() So far I haven't found anything except that Microsoft's solution was supposed to be Yammer, but I don't see it working the same and I really don't want users to have to use two seperate programs to get the same functionality as Lync server. I would really like to keep an eye on this thread to see if anyone else has found a solution or has found any more recent info from Microsoft about it. Maybe Chris (Microsoft) knows something about it? Persistent chat would require you to have an on premise Lync server deployment as it requires a place to store the chats over time. What Microsoft does offer and I would encourage you to explore as part of your subscription is Yammer and that is where you will gain this functionality out of the box. Super easy to setup in my experience and gives you all Persistent Chat does and more. You might also consider SharePoint as another point to plug in Yammer to keep the chat focused as more of a discussion. Then as a basic option / workaround you might just use SharePoint discussion boards Microsoft also has a UserVoice request board so you can post this request if you cannot find it already and everyone that wants it can vote it up and the engineering team will take note of the big ones and they do make those priority.
